Who is a selfie?

A sefie is a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand held  digital camera or camera phone, and it´s usually in a slightly tilted manner. Selfies are often asociated with social networking.

Its history: Robert Cornelius, an american pioneer in photography, produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 which is also one of the first photograph of a person. As the process was slow he had to cover the lens, run into shot for a minute or more than it, and then replace the lens cap. He recorded on the back " The first light Picture ever taken.

Its popularity: the term "selfie" was discussed by the photographer Jim Krause in 2005, although photos on the elfie genre predate the widespread use of the term. In the early 2000´, before Facebook became the dominant online social network, self-taken photographes were particullary common in MySpace.

Its sociability: the appeal of selfies come from how easy they are to create and share, and the control they give self-photographers over they how they present themselves. Many selfies are intended to present a flattering image of the person, especially to friend whom the photographer expects to be supportive.

This is the first selfish ever taken.
